P&O has a shuttle from Central to White Bay cruise terminal

P&O has introduced a shuttle from Central train station to White Bay cruise terminal in Sydney! The service started in November 2013.

****Transfers Now Available to Book from Central Station to White Bay**** P&O Cruises is please to announce the introduction of transfers from Central Station to White Bay Cruise Terminal on the day of departure. To book, simply contact our Customer Service team on 13 24 94 (AU) or 0800 780 716 (NZ). Transfers are $15 per person one way. Once confirmed and your booking is paid in full, your transfer confirmation will be available with your eTicket.

Transfers from White Bay back to Central Station are also available and can only be booked once onboard your ship. A form will be provided in your cabin.

The 20,000+ people who have read my blog, White Bay Wrong Way, and shared it on Facebook (1000+ shares) or read it via Cruise Critic or TripAdvisor, or head it mentioned on radio, knows I have major concerns about the lack of public transport to the White Bay cruise terminal in Sydney. As do thousands of cruisers.

Finally they did something about it.

On the downside, the shuttle is relatively expensive at $15. A taxi costs around $25 from Central train station to White Bay and less than $20 from Town Hall. So it’s cheaper for 2+ people travelling together to take a taxi from Central instead of the shuttle. And that’s most cruise passengers — the majority are couples, families or groups of friends.

How much does it cost you to get to White Bay? Comment below!

I am arriving at White Bay Cruise Port with my elderly mother. Trying to get to the Menzier (Carrington Street). What is the approximate cost for a cab for the two of us? Or is there a shuttle or other easy public transport?

  2. I will be boarding a cruise leaving from White Bay terminal this week , after reading your blog I have decided that as I have pensioner concession on public transport I will train it to Central and catch a cab

I have to cab it from home to our nearest railway station so it shouldn’t be any different cabbing it from Central Station to White bay

Apart from the inconvenience of moving my luggage from cab to train and back to cab it should not be hard to make it to White Bay Terminal, that is if cabs are readily available at Central

I will let you know my experience when I get back home

  3. Hi can you please tell me where abouts in Central does the shuttle pick up from? I booked my parents the shuttle but there are several entrances & I dont want them to be looking everywhere for it? :)

    • Head upstairs to the Countrylink trains area, where they’ll find the coach terminal.

      • Thank alot! :)

      • Hi was wondering if you could get the shuttle bus even if I haven’t booked as I am traveling to Sydney to meet friends from the central west and my mode of transportation has let me down.

  4. I have a booking on pacific pearl leaving from circular quay, today(14/04/14) at 4.50pm I received sms that boarding will be at white bay. as I live down the south coast , I asked for transport on shuttle bus leaving central to white bay, was told I had to make booking minium of 2 days prior to leaving port, I explained I only found out some 30 odd hours about changes, but p&o said that is the policy. as my wife and I are in our 70″s this is now turning into a nightmare, rang p&o told them of my situation ,asked to speak to a supervisor urgentlt, was told all at a meeting, but they will contact me, now 5 hours later still no contact from them, adisgusting way to treat customers

Sorry to read of your problems. We had to pay $50 for the taxi from airport to White Elephant Bay – No Way! which was still cheaper than 2 x $29 Princess would have charged.

  5. Dominic Wild at 8:37 am

Silly question: Is this shuttle only available for PO cruises? Princess is also owned by the Carnival Cruise Corp. but still? Have contacted Princess and am hoping to get a reply soon how to get to White Elephant Bay – No way!

  6. Lavina at 3:08 pm

Going on a cruise to Melbourne for the Cup. WHAT A MESS Have try all day to get transport to the port at Rozelle. WHERE IS THE TRAIN/ BUS/ PARKING STATION PLEASE . WE pay a great deal money GRRRRR

    • Hi Lavina, all the details are in my other post:

There’s no long-term parking, no bus stop within a civilised walking distance, and no train station. So your best bet is to get the train to Town Hall and then a taxi (should be less than $20)

Just rang Princess today and the cost of the shuttle from Sydney airport to White Elephant Bay – No Way is $29. As you said the taxi costs $50 for the two of us it might just be less hassle unless that price is wrong as it is an old price?

[…] UPDATE 23/10/13: P&O has introduced a shuttle from Central to White Bay for $15 per person one-way. The problem is, that’s more expensive than a taxi if there’s 2, 3 or 4 people travelling together. But at least it’s a flat fee, regardless of traffic jams.
